Biography
My name is Mark Stephens and I am the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Metro Maryland Director. This area includes Montgomery County and Prince George’s County.
I would like to introduce myself to you. In sixth grade, I repented of my sins and accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. Throughout out high school, I grew as a follower of Christ. During my freshman year at Salisbury University I fell away from my walk with God. Through a series of events in my sophomore year, I recommitted my life to Christ and made Him Lord of my life. Shortly after that, Coach Hank Janczyk and I launched the first FCA Huddle at Salisbury University. Following my graduation from Salisbury with a B.S. in Computer Science, I went on a ten week mission trip to Japan with Campus Crusade for Christ that gave me a heart for those without Jesus in their lives.
After the mission trip, I worked as a computer programmer for five years and began coaching wrestling at Bowie High School. I just completed my seventeenth year of coaching wrestling. On September 30, 1990, I married Rhonda. We have enjoyed many years of blissful marriage and the blessing of four daughters, Sally, Gracie, Lucy, and Lilly. In January of 1991, I accepted a position at Mount Oak United Methodist Church in Bowie, MD as the Minister of Growth & Nurture. During this time, I served as a FCA Camp Coach during a few summers and helped to get FCA Huddles started at several high schools. Also, for nine years I was a monthly prayer partner with Barry Spofford, the current northeast regional FCA director. Additionally, Rhonda & I attended the FCA Marriage conference and were later invited to be the conference speakers. While at Mount Oak, we developed a flourishing sports ministry that had almost four hundred children at the 1989 summer sports camp.
In January of 2000, I accepted a position as Executive Pastor at Seneca Creek Community Church in Germantown, MD and later I transitioned to the Evangelism and Missions Pastor. During some of this time, I served as the Chairman of the Board for Montgomery County FCA. I was very involved in the banquets, golf events, huddles and other aspects of the ministry.
In May of 2005, I was excited to accept the position as Metro Maryland Director of Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
